Surprise acquisition for the Montreal Canadiens today? The Canadiens' management could be adding a young Quebecer forward in the next few hours
An interesting opportunity might present itself to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens through waivers in the upcoming hours. Indeed, to the surprise of many observers, the Edmonton Oilers placed Quebecer forward Raphael Lavoie on waivers yesterday afternoon.
It will be interesting to see if the Canadiens will seize the opportunity to add a 6-foot-4 offensive forward to their lineup. Although Raphael Lavoie never had the chance to establish himself in the NHL, there's no doubt he has very high potential, and a change of scenery could be highly beneficial to him.
Could the Canadiens' General Manager, Kent Hughes, surprise everyone by acquiring him this afternoon?
"Meanwhile, Raphaël Lavoie is intriguing. I don't know if MTL will claim him, but he's 23, a 6-foot-4 winger who scored 25 goals and 45 points in the AHL last season, and it's not like Ylonen and Heineman made the team out of camp. His agent is Phil Lecavalier." - Eric Engels
Drafted 38th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2019, the forward from Chambly experienced a meteoric rise last year, increasing his point total from 26 to 45 with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL.
At only 23 years of age, the forward could potentially flourish under Martin St-Louis, who is desperately trying to earn a spot in the NHL this season. It remains to be seen whether Kent Hughes will be tempted to take a gamble on the young Quebecois.
One thing is certain, this will undoubtedly be a closely-watched story today!
