TRANSACTION ALERT: Pat Maroon has just been traded by the Lightning
We have just learned that the Tampa Bay Lightning has traded forward Pat Maroon to the Minnesota Wild, along with Max Cajkovic, for a 7th round pick.
The Lightning also retains 20% of the remaining salary.
"TB is retaining 20% of Maroon's salary... Minnesota instantly becomes the Stanley Cup favorite."
Elliotte Friedman
This is still an unexpected and very surprising trade, considering he is a three-time Stanley Cup winner, a very high-quality leader, and he had a fairly modest salary of $1 million per season.
Maroon, 35, is a 6-foot-3-inch winger who collected 14 points in 80 games in 2022-23 (150 penalty minutes). He earns $1M per season.
After Corey Perry, Tampa Bay loses another big piece of the team's locker room in Maroon.
