For several months now, we have heard many proposed trades involving the Quebecer that have made more or less sense for either the Montreal Canadiens or Winnipeg Jets.
Recently, however, in light of information reported by The Athletic's Arpon Basu that GM Kent Hughes is looking to include Josh Anderson and Christian Dvorak in a package deal to acquire Dubois, one other journalist has taken this notion and fleshed out a concrete offer to the Jets.
TSN's Eric Macramalla presented a trade that makes perfect sense for both sides involved. It is important to note that this is not a rumor but his own proposal.
Here is the offer in question:
To Montreal:
Pierre-Luc Dubois
To Winnipeg:
Josh Anderson
Christian Dvorak
Owen Beck
1st round 2023 (31st)
The Winnipeg Jets have expressed a desire to remain competitive despite the trade of Dubois, which meant they did not wish to receive an offer entirely centered around draft picks and prospects.
By including Dvorak and Anderson, Winnipeg is able to add two players to their lineup for next season. They also add a top prospect in Beck, as well as a late first-round draft pick, which has become the standard for this type of deal.
For the Canadiens, trading away the contracts of Anderson and Dvorak also free up $9.95M in salary cap space, giving them plenty of room to offer an extension to Dubois, likely worth around $8M per season.
Moreover, depending on who is chosen with the fifth overall pick at this year's draft , if the team manages to snag a center like Will Smith then they may no longer need another center like Beck in their organization.
In conclusion, you have to pay if you want good results - by trading away Anderson (29 years old) and Dvorak (27 years old), both signed for multiple seasons - Montreal is younger now with the addition of PLD; a solid top-6 forward now aged 24-years-old.
