There is no doubt that the #22 is a natural goal scorer, who possesses a simply devastating shot. Since Martin St. Louis's arrival as head coach, Cole Caufield has found the back of the net 48 times in 83 games. However, the Canadiens' forward has faced some criticism due to his sometimes lackluster defensive play.
During his appearance on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast hosted by Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette, the Canadiens' head coach mentioned that one of his priorities was to make the 22-year-old a much more complete player.
It's completely normal for a forward who is only playing his second full season in the NHL to struggle a bit in his own territory. However, it is very reassuring to hear Martin St. Louis's comments confirming that this is an aspect of the game that the two men will certainly work on next year.
The Tricolore's head coach also made a statement that speaks volumes about Cole Caufield's personality and his impact on his teammates in the locker room.
One thing's for sure, we can't wait for the Canadiens and the Caufield camp to sign a long-term agreement!
