The Canadiens have just officially lost a Hometown forward: the Minnesota Wild announce the signing of Joël Teasdale
The news is now official, the former forward for the Montreal Canadiens, Joël Teasdale, has just agreed to terms with the Minnesota Wild organization.
The 24-year-old Quebecer was in the last year of his entry-level contract with the Canadiens this season, having amassed a record of 23 goals and 38 points in 58 games with the Laval Rocket. He also played two games with the Tricolore, where he collected his first career point in the NHL, with an assist.
Kent Hughes did not see fit to qualify Teasdale before last July 1, who was set to become a restricted free agent, leaving him free as the wind to sign wherever he wanted.
It is possible that the maximum number of contracts allowed by the league, combined with the fact that there would be several young players vying for spots with the Rocket next year, contributed to his departure from Montreal.
