Even though the man himself has repeatedly emphasized his focus on his current season with his Quebec Remparts, being his last as head coach in junior hockey, this has not stopped the rumor mill from spinning, as several teams were in search of a coach for the next campaign.
However, now that he is crowned champion of the QMJHL and the Memorial Cup, everything suggests that the decision has already been made in his case, and unfortunately, the famous number 33 might end up empty-handed for next year.
The Capitals, the Predators, the Blue Jackets, and the Ducks have all found their candidate to steer their respective teams in the last few days.
Unless there is a turn of events within an NHL team, only the Rangers and the Flames are currently without a head coach.
However, this does not bode well for Roy, as the favorites are reportedly John Hynes and Peter Laviolette in New York, and he hasn't even been contacted by the organization. As for Calgary, all signs point to Gerard Gallant as the successor to Darryl Sutter.
So, unless there is a surprising change, the legendary Patrick Roy will not have a job for the start of the next season.
