The value of Sean Monahan would be astronomical right now, and Kent Hughes will have a lot of calls
Among the pleasant surprises this season, we cannot overlook Sean Monahan. We're not just talking about the Canadiens, but throughout the NHL.
When he's healthy, Monahan is an excellent hockey player, and he's proving it once again. If he stays healthy, with the salary he earns and what he brings to the table, he will certainly be worth his weight in gold approaching the trade deadline.
According to Martin Lemay, there are several factors that explain why his value will be significant, and he believes that the offers will be very enticing for Kent Hughes:
"At 2 million, a center who will certainly be number two on every team, who can win faceoffs like that, it's going to be worth a lot at the trade deadline! Personally, I believe that you need good veterans to build your team. I think Sean Monahan fits with the Montreal Canadiens, but damn, the temptation will be strong at the trade deadline if the Canadiens are no longer in the playoff picture."
Kent Hughes's phone should not stop ringing in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline. He will have an important decision to make between keeping Monahan with the team or trading him.
Don't be surprised if he waits until the last minute before offering him a contract, as he will certainly want to evaluate all his options.
