Trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers: it could involve young defenseman Philip Broberg
The Edmonton Oilers have two major issues at the moment. They don't have salary cap space, and they don't have a dominant enough goaltender to keep them in games.
Things have improved a bit lately, but their recipe is not a long-term success, as seen in recent playoff years.
They are desperately looking to trade salary, and young defenseman Philip Broberg has been targeted. In fact, even Broberg's agent has the green light to find a trade partner for the Oilers. That's very rare to see.
Ken Holland is so certain he wants to trade the young man that he's doing everything in his power to make it happen.
"Understand the Oilers have given the Philip Broberg camp permission to seek a trade. There appears to be a hot market for him. Edmonton not looking to recoup a pick, they would like a player (or goalie) to help them now." - Via Frank Seravalli
TVA Sports then raised the possibility that the Canadiens could trade Broberg for Jake Allen or Cayden Primeau. It's probably the ideal scenario for the Oilers, but not for the Canadiens, who have a surplus in that position.
