It's no longer a secret to anyone, but the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, is actively looking to find a new destination for goaltender Casey DeSmith. Although the trade market has been quite quiet in the past few weeks, Frank Seravalli has just confirmed a major piece of information, which could provide a golden opportunity for the Tricolore.

Indeed, according to information disclosed by the president of Daily Faceoff, the Colorado Avalanche is currently looking for a second goaltender to back up Alexandar Georgiev this year. Pavel Francouz, who underwent surgery on his adductors this summer, would not be at 100% and might evidently miss the start of the season.

«The Avalanche is examining options on the trade market for a goaltender. I'm told that Pavel Francouz has not fully recovered from his adductor surgery during the offseason, and there are fears he might not be fit to start the season.

Francouz only started 16 games for the Avalanche last season.» - Frank Seravalli

Wow! Knowing that there is already a good relationship between the executives of the Canadiens and the Avalanche, who have concluded two trades since Kent Hughes was hired, everything seems to be in place for the two teams to start discussions in the coming days. Could Casey DeSmith be heading to Colorado?

Kent Hughes asserted on Monday that injuries during the training camp might open up new opportunities and thus allow him to find a new destination for his goaltender, and this is exactly what is happening now with Pavel Francouz's injury.

There is no doubt that the Colorado Avalanche will be one of the best teams in the NHL this season, and DeSmith could be a very interesting option for the position of the second goaltender, having played a very similar role during his five seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Stay tuned in the coming days, we might finally have a resolution regarding the goaltenders' situation with the Tricolore.
