However, even though the main individual in question has mentioned multiple times that he will be playing with the Laval Rocket next season, this statement does not seem to be unanimous. In fact, BPM Sports journalist Anthony Marcotte, who possesses excellent knowledge regarding the organization's prospects, does not believe that Mesar will be able to secure a position with the Canadiens' AHL affiliate team.
Nevertheless, the 2022 first-round pick is firmly convinced that he has done what it takes to establish himself full-time in the professional ranks, even hoping for a chance to participate in a few matches with the Habs in 2023-2024.
Personally, I quite agree with Anthony Marcotte's opinion on this matter. Fans have often criticized the management for not being patient enough with young players, and Mesar didn't exactly light up the OHL last year. He seemed to struggle with adapting to the North American style of play, only tallying 17 goals and 34 assists (51 points) in 52 games with the Kitchener Rangers.
Considering he's eligible to return to his junior team, it might be more beneficial for his development to give him an additional season in the OHL before bringing him to the Laval Rocket. After all, Mesar could have the opportunity to play a leading role and regain confidence in his abilities within a team that appears to be much more competitive this year.
Of course, the training camp will be decisive for the future of the Kezmarok-born forward. However, I believe it would be a grave mistake to assume that he absolutely must make the jump to the American League this season. It will be up to him to prove that he truly deserves his spot with the Rocket during the preseason games; otherwise, a return to the junior ranks might be more advantageous for him.
Patience is key for the 2022 first-round pick!
