One such expert is the excellent Arpon Basu, who works for The Athletic. He seems to believe that an important decision has already been made by the Canadiens' management. Due to an excess of forwards on the team, it appears that the organization will have no choice but to place a player on waivers at the beginning of the season to comply with the maximum 23-contract rule.
According to Basu, the player who potentially risks being placed on waivers is 26-year-old forward Rem Pitlick, who will likely have to go through the waiver process.
Although an official announcement will only be made towards the end of training camp, it wouldn't be surprising if the forward starts the season with the Laval Rocket or another NHL team if he is claimed on waivers.
Pitlick, 26, has been a valuable asset to the Canadiens since joining the team, tallying a total of 15 goals and 26 assists (41 points) in 92 games.
Furthermore, with a contract worth $1.1 million for the upcoming season, it's likely that several general managers could be interested in acquiring him, especially considering he collected 22 points in 18 AHL games last year.
Do you believe that the Canadiens could lose Rem Pitlick for nothing in the coming weeks?
