Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell recently admitted that he has been in contact with a few teams in the league, aiming to finalize a trade involving Patrik Laine.
Still in the NHL's assistance program, this doesn't really help Don Waddell's cause at the moment. His value is much lower than when he was traded for Pierre-Luc Dubois. He will be more enticing and his value will increase once he officially leaves the assistance program.
On this subject, there has been some development in the last few hours.
Kent Hughes has emphasized this on several occasions. The Montreal Canadiens are interested in acquiring Patrik Laine via trade. The mere fact that he is back in training should help move this very interesting situation forward. This could be resolved in the coming days or weeks.
This situation is likely to gain momentum, and we should know the outcome by the start of the next regular season.
Standing 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 215 pounds, Patrik Laine has immense potential and could become a 40-goal scorer or more in the NHL. One thing is certain, he will be seen as a major asset in the team led by Martin St-Louis.
In his NHL career, he has accumulated 204 goals and 184 assists (388 points) in 480 games with the Winnipeg Jets and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Recent years have been rather disappointing considering his elite shot and golden hands.
