Huge trade between the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs involving Marner?
Kent Hughes and Brad Treliving have a history of major transactions together, even though the Canadiens GM has been in the role for less than three years.
Indeed, when Treliving was with Calgary, they notably traded for Tyler Toffoli and Sean Monahan.
Now, this could happen again, but with Mitch Marner, who fits exactly what the Canadiens are looking for in a player.
According to Trege Wilson and several others, Marner has played his last game in Toronto, and a trade is imminent.
"In this context, Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs could be an interesting target, as predicted by Trege Wilson of The Hockey Writers in his latest article."
Wilson didn't stop there. He believes the Habs would be at the front of the line to acquire him because they have absolutely everything to make a trade work.
"The Canadiens will try to acquire Mitch Marner via trade.
Everyone is waiting for the Canadiens to trade for a Patrik Laine, Rutger McGoarty, Trevor Zegras, or Martin Necas; at least, these are the best players who would make it to Montreal.
The Tricolor have assets that can help them acquire top talent, with an abundance of young defensemen, a solid pool of goalie prospects, and seven picks in the first three rounds of the 2025 draft.
They also have the cap space needed to take on a bad contract if that's what it takes to get the player they want. The Toronto Maple Leafs have a player capable of accumulating points and producing."
- The Hockey Writers Marner has had extraordinary seasons since the start of his career, consistently producing at over a point-per-game pace.
His arrival in Montreal would be remarkable and would instantly elevate the team.
We know the Leafs love Arber Xhekaj, but it would cost much more to land a player of Marner's caliber.
