Acquiring Trevor Zegras or Martin Necas: Owen Beck involved?
With the 33rd overall pick in 2022, the Canadiens selected the young Owen Beck, who has been highly praised. Many believe he should have been picked in the first round.
The recipient of the Most Valuable Player award at the last Memorial Cup has finished his junior career and will start his professional career next year, but it might not be with the Canadiens.
Indeed, to acquire a player like Martin Necas or Trevor Zegras, analysts agree that Kent Hughes will have to offer a promising defenseman, the Jets' first-round pick, a good forward prospect, and a veteran.
The good forward prospect could very well be Beck. With his 81 points in 57 games this season, the center added another accolade with the Memorial Cup and the MVP title.
"Owen Beck, Most Valuable Player of the Memorial Cup. Is he the missing key for Kent Hughes to complete his trade for a top-6 forward? For Trevor Zegras or Martin Necas? There's a good chance he is. The answer will come by the draft." - David Ettedgui
Honestly, I hadn't considered him as an option, but it's starting to look interesting.
Imagine if the Canadiens offered Joel Armia, Owen Beck, the Jets' first-round pick, and Jayden Struble for Trevor Zegras, would you do it?
"Owen Beck having a strong Memorial Cup tournament and winning the MVP title doesn't define the rest of his career, but it's certainly a notable achievement on his resume. Could the spotlight on him give him enough trade value for the Canadiens to use him as a significant piece in the famous transaction to acquire a top-6 forward? To be continued..." - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
This is a developing story that is starting to make a lot of noise.
