Acquisition of a forward by Kent Hughes: a potential target in Los Angeles
The free-agent market is pretty much depleted, and nothing is moving in the NHL regarding high-level player trades.
Of course, we're talking about players like Trevor Zegras, Martin Necas, Patrik Laine, and the like. Kent Hughes hasn't finished his summer shopping, but clearly, the price being asked of him doesn't make sense to him.
With few options left, he might turn to the Los Angeles Kings, who have a young RFA forward yet to sign a contract.
According to The Hockey News, Arthur Kaliyev could be a target for the Canadiens' GM.
"One team that would be interested [in Arthur Kaliyev] is the Montreal Canadiens. THN writer Adam Proteau suggested the Canadiens as a potential destination for Kaliyev, and it makes sense. As Proteau notes in his article, Montreal is still in the early stages of its rebuild and has the flexibility to give Kaliyev a real opportunity in a significant role. Kaliyev could certainly fit into a top-9 spot and perhaps even in the top-6 if he impresses at training camp." Via The Hockey News
This could certainly be interesting, as Kaliyev would finally get a real chance to prove himself. He has done very well in junior and in the American League.
Additionally, the price to pay wouldn't be very high according to Proteau.
"Emil Heineman would be an interesting option for LA. He has already been traded twice in his young career, including once for Tyler Toffoli, but he seems to be a future depth forward in the NHL. He is tall, skates well, and is constantly involved in the game, although his offensive contribution is limited compared to someone like Kaliyev." Via The Hockey News Honestly, even though I like Heineman, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to make this trade. Kaliyev has a higher ceiling and more developed offensive skills.
The Canadiens already have responsible players like Heineman. Adding offensive talent is a priority, and here's an opportunity to do just that.
