We had some nice surprises at the Canadiens training camp, and one of them was Alex Barré-Boulet, who earned a valuable spot.
Indeed, we thought that Joshua Roy's spot was guaranteed in Montreal, but he was given to the Rocket, against all expectations. ABB got his spot, but not for long. Oliver Kapanen and Emil Heineman also surprised.
It only lasted two games and Alex was put on waivers. He was not claimed and went to join the Laval Rocket. He is now back in the American League, where he excels.
Asked about this disappointing stage of his career, but one that he is used to, ABB was very frank. He wishes with all his heart to have another chance in the NHL, and he would have liked to have been claimed on waivers and leave the Canadiens for that to happen.
"I probably knew I wouldn't be claimed. I was watching, I would have liked to get another chance in the NHL, but now I'm here and I'll do everything to come back with the Canadiens."- Alex Barré-Boulet
Despite the disappointment, he's still in a good frame of mind. It's not too late for him to come back to the NHL. He's missing so little!
What they say is that he's able to produce enough, but defensively, it's more difficult for him. That's what's taking away his chances of playing in the NHL. He's so close!
Obviously, we can't blame him for wanting to continue in the NHL, traveling by plane, in luxury hotels, instead of traveling by bus and sleeping in more modest motels.
Let's hope for him that he'll be able to make his place enough to be called up by the big club and stay at the top.
