Alex Newhook soon to be left out?
Before the start of the season, Canadiens fans had high expectations for the second trio which was to be composed of Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook and new acquisition Patrik Laine.
On the other hand, as the site Danslescoulisses.com reports, things didn't go as planned at all.
Laine injured his knee in a preseason game, while Dach and Newhook didn't break anything either. The former has only two assists in seven games and the former first-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2019 has only one point, a goal against the Ottawa Senators on October 12.
But there is much worse because the Canadiens' offense has been struggling since the start of the season and one of the things to prove it is that eight of the team's forwards have only scored a total of three goals.
And Alex Newhook is one of them, as mentioned by journalist Stu Cowan via his X account.
In fact, only Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, Brendan Gallagher and Emil Heineman have scored more than once since the start of the season.
That said, Martin St-Louis seems to be running out of options to get his offense going again and we wonder if the Canadiens head coach shouldn't take the opportunity to send a message to one of his forwards by leaving him out for a game.
Could it be Alex Newhook?
Let's just say that the latter is not having a great start this season, despite having had an excellent end to the season in 2023-2024.
But what could lead us to believe that he would be the coach's choice to be left out is that Newhook is the fourth least used forward on the Canadiens since the start of the season.
We are still far from this scenario for the moment but if the Canadiens' lack of success in attack continues at the start of the season, Kent Hughes will then have to make big decisions for better or for worse.
