The Canadiens and Kent Hughes are on the hunt for another promising young forward this summer, similar to their acquisitions of Dach and Newhook in the past two years.
Both times, the GM turned to Western Conference teams, and it looks like this trend might continue as a golden opportunity presents itself to Kent Hughes.
An unexpected candidate as the next Kirby Dach
While names like Trevor Zegras, Martin Necas, and Marco Rossi are frequently mentioned in rumors, there's another name emerging in the mix.
According to David Pagnotta, Arthur Kaliyev is currently on the market, and he has reportedly requested a trade before the end of the summer.
In 51 games last season, Kaliyev recorded 15 points. The Kings are disappointed with his performance, even though he is only 22 years old.
Kaliyev excels at puck protection and has a powerful shot. A fresh start with a different team could greatly benefit him.
The 6'2", 210 lbs right winger had a very strong junior career with 102 and 98 point seasons in the OHL. He has the capability to produce and the tools to succeed in the NHL.
Kaliyev will be a restricted free agent on July 1st, which fits perfectly with Kent Hughes' habits. The GM traded for Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook and signed them under similar circumstances.
