The Canadiens acquired the first overall pick in 2022, for the first time in over 40 years, and they selected Juraj Slafkovsky.

It wasn't a mistake, as Slaf is proving to everyone that he has what it takes to belong to the NHL elite one day.

Regarding the next first overall pick, the Canadiens technically won't have to wait another 40 years, according to Craig Button.

The journalist asserts that Lane Hutson, selected in the second round of the same draft, has the talent of a first overall pick.

In fact, he might have been considered for that title if he had measured 5'11" instead of 3 inches shorter at the time of the draft.

While Button's opinions can sometimes be debatable or controversial, it's true that Hutson possesses exceptional talent worthy of being among the first players drafted.

His stature may have intimidated some, leading to his selection at the 62nd overall pick.

However, he's already considered a steal by Kent Hughes, possibly the biggest steal of that draft.

Having seen him play for two games at the end of the season, personally, I wouldn't hesitate to have him play for the Canadiens as early as next season.
