Blunt Statement: It's over with the Canadiens for young goalie Cayden Primeau
Even coming from a colorful personality like Jean-Charles Lajoie, this statement is surprising.
On TVA Sports airwaves on Saturday, JiC mentioned that it was over for Primeau in Montreal, defending his point with several arguments.
"If we haven't given up on him, why did we draft three goalies last year? Primeau is done. The organization doesn't want him anymore and doesn't know what to do with him. They are burning him out.
He doesn't play enough. It was only his 12th start [on Thursday], it's not working. It's not enough." - Jean-Charles Lajoie
While it's agreed that it's not enough, is this argument strong enough to claim that the Canadiens don't want him anymore? Here's the continuation.
"I didn't like his game against the Penguins. He gave up two bad goals, the first and the third. Is he giving up bad goals because he's not good, or is he giving up bad goals because he plays every two weeks? Or is it both?"
He's not entirely wrong on one point. Primeau, to develop, needs to play more. But would he really play more as a backup in another NHL team, say behind Connor Hellebuyck or Andrei Vasilevskiy? I doubt it.
12 starts for a goalie who was initially seen as the odd one out at the beginning of the season is quite good. Personally, I think it's Samuel Montembeault who doesn't play enough.
Do you agree with Jean-Charles's remarks? Do you think the Canadiens have given up on Primeau?
