Cayden Primeau represents a steal from the 2017 draft. Selected in the 7th round, 199th overall, he was on the Canadiens' list for the 2nd round.

With Carey Price at his best and Zachary Fucale showing great promise, the Canadiens didn't plan to draft a goalie, so they let him slip.

Seeing him slide to the 7th round, the Canadiens had no choice but to act, and they acquired the Flyers' pick to select Primeau. Today, it's clear that it was a good decision.

"Primeau, 24, was drafted with the 199th overall pick (in the 7th round) of the 2017 draft.

But in 2017, the Canadiens didn't have a seventh-round pick.

Indeed, it was thanks to a trade with the Flyers that Montreal was able to acquire this 199th overall pick and thus draft Cayden Primeau."

As mentioned earlier, the Canadiens held Primeau in high regard but didn't have any needs at that level.

"But what you need to know about the 2017 draft is that the Canadiens had Cayden Primeau in the second round of their mock draft. They ranked him third, behind Jake Oettinger and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. We can agree that these are not mediocre goalies." - Raphael Simard

In short, there's a lot said about the work of the Timmins and Bergevin duo, but they've made some good moves for the current Canadiens team. Cayden has come out of his shell, and he's one of the many players to come from them, like Nick Suzuki (trade), Kaiden Guhle, Cole Caufield, to name a few.
