Indeed, the scouting team and the organization's top brass have been working tirelessly for months to identify the best potential prospects.
According to TVA Sports, there are now only four candidates, all of whom are forwards, which comes as no surprise.
Here's what TVA Sports reported:
Ivan Demidov is a highly skilled forward who amassed 60 points in 30 games in the MHL. That's 2 points more than Nikita Kucherov, in 11 fewer games, at the same age. It's simply fantastic.
Cayden Lindstrom is an excellent power forward with a large frame and a knack for scoring goals. He netted 27 goals in 32 WHL games before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the season.
Tij Iginla is the son of Jarome Iginla, so leadership and tenacity run in his blood. He racked up 84 points in 64 games, including an impressive 47 goals. He's also a sharp shooter like his father.
Beckett Sennecke would be the most surprising candidate to go 5th overall, as he is ranked around the 15th spot. He recorded 68 points in 63 OHL games, but watch outhe was dominant late in the season and during the playoffs, with 22 points in 16 matches.
If Cayden Lindstrom and Ivan Demidov are not available at the 5th pick and Kent Hughes is indeed limiting himself to these four players, he might consider trading down to select Iginla or Sennecke at a lower position.
