Chantal Machabée met Cole Caufield about his attitude problem in front of the media
At a press briefing on Saturday, Cole Caufield surprised everyone by giving a rather
arrogant answer to a question asked by journalist Guillaume Lefrançois, saying that his question was crazy.
You've probably noticed that the little forward has changed his attitude in front of journalists for some time now. He's really curter than he was when he started.
Luc Gélinas, from RDS, returned to this sequence during his appearance on BPM Sports yesterday.
According to him, Caufield is often on the defensive when questioned by journalists, a behavior that could harm his public image.
" [...] That's Cole Caufield. He's always on the defensive, he doesn't like it... He's not comfortable with it, and that's the short, curt response right away. [...] There's no problem with that."
"I know that last year, Chantal Machabée was supposed to meet with him to tell him to tone it down a bit, and to be even when he's talking to us. We're not here to let them down, we're here to gather information."
- Luc Gélinas, RDS
But why is he being so arrogant? My gut tells me that it all started when some journalists revealed that he was going out to bars a lot.
Gélinas also recalled that a meeting with Chantal Machabée had been planned to address this problem. If this meeting took place, it hasn't really changed. But this situation is not unique to Caufield.
Playing for a team as high-profile as the Montreal Canadiens puts constant pressure on young players, who must quickly learn to deal with the media attention.
Despite everything, Caufield remains a player appreciated and respected for his dedication, both on and off the ice.
On the ice, we can clearly see that he has fun and that's the important thing, because he is the CH's leading scorer!
