Dvorak has never become the player the Canadiens hoped he would be, and he is one of the many "undesirable" players that Kent Hughes inherited from Marc Bergevin's regime.
The issue is that his market value is quite low. At $4.45 million for the upcoming year, with a heavy injury history and fairly modest production, teams are unlikely to pay much for him.
Moreover, Dvorak's presence in the lineup blocks spots for younger players who deserve ice time. With Kirby Dach returning to center and Dvorak as the 3rd-line center, Alex Newhook would be moved to the wing, leaving no room for Joshua Roy. That's not ideal.
According to "The Hockey Writers", Kent Hughes might need to essentially give Dvorak away to another team. This move would open up a spot for Joshua Roy, and potentially for other young players like Owen Beck or Emil Heineman, who represent the future of the club and are part of the plans.
If Dvorak's value is negative, Hughes will need to assess just how far he's willing to go, as paying to get rid of a player during a rebuild seems quite contradictory.
