Cole Caufield trade: an NHL manager agrees and signs
Reactions were numerous on Thursday following the release of a trade discussion involving Cole Caufield and the former Arizona Coyotes' 6th round pick.
In fact, Mathias Brunet calls it more of a discussion than a proposal, but for fans, it amounts to the same thing. He would trade Caufield for the 6th overall pick, which belongs to Utah.
Martin Lemay agrees with him and according to him, some NHL executives who heard about this proposal would also accept it.
"By the way, it wasn't a proposal, but a discussion. And you would fall off your chair if you knew who, among the NHL managers surveyed since yesterday, would make this trade." - Mathias Brunet
This means that a major NHL figure would also accept this trade. This is very interesting because it clearly shows the depth of this year's draft.
According to Brunet, there could possibly be a Matthew Tkachuk or Moritz Seider available at the 6th spot.
"Good point. The question to ask: Will Caufield help you win in the playoffs, in two or three years? If yes, you keep him. If you have a Matthew Tkachuk or Seider in your sights at six, you have to think about it. I asked the question yesterday to some managers. You'd be surprised." - Mathias Brunet
We already know that Cole can greatly help the Canadiens win in the playoffs, as he did as a rookie.
However, I understand Mathias's point here, and if I had to choose between Matthew Tkachuk and Cole Caufield, I would take Tkachuk without hesitation, even though I love Cole.
