When a player is actually traded, we speak in the present tense. When it's a rumor or speculation, we use the conditional tense. It's a rule in the industry, and all journalists, insiders, and experts are aware of it.

Nevertheless, a very well-known individual made a significant mistake last week by stating that Jake Allen IS traded to the Avalanche.

Matt Murley has 90,000 followers, and he works with Barstool and Spittin' Chiclets, the world's largest hockey podcast, which also shared his post.

What a blunder. Several insiders confirmed a few minutes later that it was false, but it was too late. The news spread like wildfire.

Jake Allen commented on the situation for the first time.

"But I have no control over that. These are rumors, and most people speculating are doing it just for the sake of speculating. Someone told me the other day that I was traded to Colorado, and my phone almost exploded with messages.

It's something that bothers my parents more. I know it's part of the game. It started in November or October, and it will become even more intense as the trade deadline (March 8) approaches." - Jake Allen

It's certain that it impacts players and their families. Despite Allen saying he's used to it and that he's a veteran, his on-ice performances speak for themselves.
