Owen Beck is one of the young prospects to watch closely during the Montreal Canadiens' training camp.

Selected in the 2nd round, 32nd overall, in the 2022 draft, this is his third camp with the Habs. Unless a surprise occurs, Beck is expected to start the season with the Laval Rocket in the AHL, but his future looks bright.

Some analysts, including TSN's Craig Button, believe in his NHL potential. During his appearance on The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro, Button stated:

«I wouldn't have traded Owen Beck for Yaroslav Askarov»

This statement shows how highly Button values Beck and his potential, while also expressing great confidence in the future of Jacob Fowler as the Canadiens' next top goaltender.

Canadiens GM Kent Hughes had shown interest in Yaroslav Askarov before he was traded by the Nashville Predators to the San Jose Sharks. Ultimately, the Predators received David Edstrom, a player with a similar profile to Beck.

Though Beck is often seen as a future fourth-line center, his potential goes far beyond that role. His versatility and impressive performances in junior leagues, where he concluded by winning the Memorial Cup, hint at a promising future with the Montreal Canadiens.

It will be interesting to follow his development, especially with the high expectations set by experts like Button.
