Indeed, right from the opening faceoff, David Reinbacher suffered a somewhat mysterious injury and never returned to the game. He left the Bell Centre on crutches, with a plastic brace on his left knee.
Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, Matvei Michkov is shining and led his team to victory in overtime. The Flyers were playing against the Bruins, who are far from being a bad team.
David Reinbacher will take time to develop, which is entirely normal for a defenseman, but he remains a top 5 pick. He is injured, but even without that, I don't see him in Montreal this season.
Matvei Michkov is already making crowds roar in the meantime. It's certainly early to compare the two players and their impact on their respective teams, but for now, the Canadiens are losing out.
Check out this beautiful goal by Matvei Michkov.
Nothing against David Reinbacher, but I still believe the Canadiens should have chosen Matvei Michkov. I've thought so since day one, as have many fans.
We'll see in the coming years if Kent Hughes and his team were right, but for now and in the medium term, Daniel Brière and the Flyers are rubbing their hands together.
