The message isn't directly aimed at the veteran defenseman, but it's undoubtedly the most appealing for a contending team and one that holds the most value.
Nick Suzuki, however, wants nothing to do with losing David Savard or any other player. He sent the following message to Kent Hughes and all Canadiens fans:
This is a very telling statement. It means that the captain wants the Canadiens to fight for a playoff spot until the end and, who knows, maybe even surprise everyone.
The Canadiens are expected to show significant progress this year, both in the NHL standings and in the Atlantic Division. Finishing at the bottom will clearly not be tolerated by the captain.
Regarding David Savard, he is undoubtedly a special player and will attract interest from several teams. It remains to be seen what Kent Hughes will decide about him.
Personally, I'd like him to stay at least until the end of the season. Yes, he could bring in a first-round pick, but his leadership and contribution to the development of the team's young defensemen are invaluable. His worth cannot be measured.
