Dramatic twist ahead of the draft: Kent Hughes might make a move
Kent Hughes and the Canadiens will have the 5th overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft on June 28th.
That's when we'll find out the identity of the next prospect for the organization, but it might take longer than expected.
According to David Pagnotta, Kent Hughes might surprise everyone and trade the 5th overall pick if Cayden Lindstrom and Ivan Demidov are no longer available.
"Increasing whispers behind the scenes suggest that Cayden Lindstrom is very high on the Canadiens' list, and if he is no longer available at the 5th spot, Kent Hughes might trade the pick."
- David Pagnotta
For Lindstrom and/or Demidov to be available at the 5th spot, two or three defensemen would need to be selected after Macklin Celebrini.
The chances are good since this draft is very strong for defensemen.
It will all depend on the needs of the Ducks, Blackhawks, and Blue Jackets.
Cayden Lindstrom is a 6'4", 215 lbs monster who scored 46 points, including 27 goals in just 32 games in the WHL, along with 66 penalty minutes.
