The Anaheim Ducks have a promising future, but the road to success in the NHL might still be long.

It's unlikely we'll see them in the playoffs this season, and according to Elliotte Friedman, two key veterans-John Gibson and Cam Fowler - could leave the team before the trade deadline.

For Fowler, the situation is more complicated. His no-movement clause limits his options to only four teams, and his $6.5 million per season contract for the next two years makes a trade difficult to orchestrate.

As for John Gibson, with the emergence of rising star Lukas Dostal, the Ducks could consider trading him to strengthen other areas. The Toronto Maple Leafs have shown interest, but Anaheim will likely have to retain part of Gibson's salary, as he earns $6.4 million per year for another three seasons.

On the Canadiens' side, one might wonder if Gibson could tempt GM Kent Hughes. With Montreal's pressing need for a solid goalie alongside Samuel Montembeault, a Montembeault-Gibson duo could be an ideal solution for a team struggling to find a successor to Carey Price.
