A young offensive defenseman who, after being drafted, carried the hopes of the Canadiens' defense on his shoulders, is said to be leaving the Tricolore.

Mattias Norlinder, once regarded as a very promising defenseman by fans, never managed to adapt to North American hockey. After struggling in the AHL, he excelled in the Canadiens' 2023 training camp, but his 2023-24 season with the Laval Rocket was one to forget. Compared to Nicklas Lidstrom by a Swedish journalist, Norlinder has just completed another challenging season with the Tricolore's farm team.

Now 24 years old, Norlinder has collected a meager 9 points in 50 games while posting a negative plus-minus rating.

Is Mattias Norlinder returning to Sweden?

This is what journalist Johan Svensson from the Expressen media outlet has suggested.

"In fact, according to Svensson, it would be MoDo Hockey, a team Norlinder has previously played for, that would like to bring him back into their lineup. [...]

And apparently, this is causing a stir over there to the point where the official SHL account, the league in which MoDo plays, mentioned the possibility of seeing Norlinder come to town via its X account." - Félix Forget
