Home run move by Kent Hughes? The Montreal Canadiens are setting up their next draft pick, and it could be Cayden Lindstrom
We won't sugarcoat it; fans have a very fragile trust in the Canadiens' front office when it comes to first-round picks.
Between 2006 and 2017, no first-round picks are still with the team. Although it has stabilized since with Kaiden Guhle, Cole Caufield, Logan Mailloux, and Juraj Slafkovsky, among others, last year's selection of David Reinbacher put it all into perspective.
The Canadiens need talent upfront, and a potential generational player was available in Matvei Michkov. However, management decided to pick a defenseman, which is far from rare for the Habs.
This year could be different. Young Cayden Lindstrom is making waves, so much so that he's being compared to Eric Lindros. According to several experts, he could go between the 5th and 7th overall picks.
"I compare him to Eric Lindros."
"He probably has the highest potential in the draft."
Cayden Lindstrom is catching the eyes of hockey men.
And he will become a serious candidate for the Canadiens if they continue to lose.

Certainly, players like Macklin Celebrini and Cole Eiserman are stealing the spotlight, but Lindstrom is truly turning heads.
The Canadiens have even spoken with the 18-year-old player, who has 66 penalty minutes, 46 points including 27 goals in 32 games, and stands at 6'3" and 215 lbs. A real Western beef, as his nickname suggests.
Moreover, the forward sees himself in Montreal:
"I talked a bit to the Canadiens' recruiters," Lindstrom says. "It was good. They're good people. I know you have pretty crazy fans in Montreal. I like that, and the organization has a rich history. The market doesn't intimidate me." - Cayden Lindstrom
If the Canadiens continue to lose and select in the top 5, I can guarantee you that Kent Hughes will be excited to call his name if he's still available.
