Kent Hughes likes to work on trades that are profitable in the long term, and he has the opportunity to make another one.

Indeed, the Edmonton Oilers are in trouble following two hostile offers made to two of their players, and they now have 7 days to address the situation.

They are currently above the salary cap, but Kent Hughes could take on a bad contract to help alleviate their cap situation, in return for compensation.

Remember two years ago, when Hughes agreed to take on Sean Monahan's contract and a first-round pick in exchange for future considerations.

He could do something similar with the Oilers this summer.

"Remember, Hughes is not afraid to make a similar trade. We saw it with Sean Monahan, after all.

Hughes could therefore dance with Bowman by offering to take on a significant salary if, and only if, Bowman is willing to give him a little sweetener in the deal."

- Marc-Olivier Cook

If the Oilers don't move, they'll have to let Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway go, which would be regrettable. Placing Evander Kane on LTIR wouldn't be enough either.

The name currently circulating is Cody Ceci. The defenseman earns just over $3 million for one more year. The fact that he is right-handed would help Kent Hughes, either to find him a place in the lineup or to trade him.

One thing is certain: if there is a trade between the two teams, it will be very soon.
