Important last-minute change on defense involving David Savard and a young prodigy
The Canadiens are deep into training camp, and if there's one player caught in trade rumors, it's David Savard, whether he likes it or not.
The defenseman will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and given his profile as a player, he will be highly sought after as the playoffs approach. A right-handed defenseman who can log significant minutes, sacrifices himself to block shots, and plays hard is a rare find.
For now, he remains part of the Canadiens and will be crucial for the young players coming into the organization. David is a quality mentor and has proven time and again that he is the right person to teach the ropes to younger players.
This is where it gets interesting. Paired with Arber Xhekaj before his injury last season, David Savard helped elevate Xhekaj's game significantly. Their pairing was very beneficial for both.
At the end of last season, Lane Hutson also received Savard's support during their two games together, and that will continue tonight, even with Arber Xhekaj in the lineup.
