According to the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, 23 players can travel with the team, although only 20 dress for each game. This means 36 players will eventually leave, and one name is already on the chopping block.
First-round pick, 26th overall in 2022, Filip Mesar has not impressed since his acquisition in the 2022 draft. Once again, he seems overwhelmed when arriving in Montreal.
It's unfortunate because he has great skills, but he appears to be missing that extra something, as if he can't elevate his game.
While it's not to say the organization has given up on Filip Mesar, time is running out for him to impress. This is his third camp, and he has already been assigned to the third group, indicating he will be among the first to be cut and will report to the Rocket.
It's even possible he may not get any preseason games, which is becoming a concerning situation for the young player.
Filip Mesar is competing against young talents like Oliver Kapanen, Owen Beck, Emil Heineman, and Sean Farrell, to name a few. He can't just show up at camp and take it easy. He needs to find a way to stand out, or his professional career may not unfold as expected.
