It was great to have hockey to enjoy again, especially since there hadn't been any involving the Canadiens since April. Of course, it wasn't the original team, but it was interesting to see our prospects in action.
For the occasion, Geoff Molson and the entire organization made a wonderful gesture involving one of their former prospects. The referee for this game was none other than Hayden Verbeek, who played three seasons with the Laval Rocket.
The former forward was still at his stick last year when he decided to transition to refereeing, and he is truly climbing the ranks.
When it comes to visibility for a referee hoping to make it in the field, a Montreal vs. Toronto game on a Saturday afternoon is perfect!
Hayden Verbeek is now fully dedicated to his refereeing career and has a very good chance of making it to the NHL. The Canadiens have just given him a solid boost towards achieving that.
This is truly an honor for the organization. I'm not sure if it was Geoff Molson who came up with this excellent idea, but one thing is certain: it's a beautiful story that once again demonstrates the great class of the Montreal Canadiens.
