Is young goaltender Yaroslav Askarov part of the Canadiens' plans?
Yaroslav Askarov was first linked to the Canadiens at the 2023 NHL Draft, and the topic has resurfaced recently.
Analysts and sources confirm that the Nashville Predators offered Askarov and a first-round pick in exchange for the Canadiens' 5th overall pick, which became David Reinbacher.
Since then, Askarov remains with the Predators, but it may not last long. He is too talented to stay in the AHL and play a backup role.
Juuse Saros is the clear number one in Nashville, making a trade for Askarov increasingly likely.
While there's no confirmation that Askarov requested a trade, his performance indicates he's ready for the NHL.
Could the Canadiens be interested? It seems unlikely, given their current goalie prospects, including Jacob Fowler, and the strong duo of Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau.
