Several forwards have been linked to Kent Hughes and the Canadiens in recent weeks, including obviously Patrik Laine from Columbus.

The Finnish player has finally exited the NHL's Player Assistance Program as of Friday, making him available for a trade. However, he is not the one in question here.

Kent Johnson signs in Columbus: confirmed for Kent Hughes

The Blue Jackets have announced they have signed another forward linked to the Canadiens, the young Kent Johnson.

"The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Kent Johnson to a three-year contract worth $5.4 million ($1.8 million per year) through the 2026-27 NHL season," announced the club's President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, Don Waddell.

"Kent Johnson is an exciting young player with tremendous potential, and we're thrilled that he'll continue to grow and develop as a Blue Jacket," Waddell said.

The matter is now closed, and Kent Hughes can officially move on from this option.

In my opinion, with the contract Johnson signed, he was never really on the market. He wanted to stay in Columbus for such a low contract over three seasons.

If he had wanted to be traded immediately, he would never have accepted such a deal.

Even though this option is no longer available for Kent Hughes, he can still look into the Blue Jackets for Patrik Laine, and there are other big names still available, such as Martin Necas, Trevor Zegras, and Rutger McGroarty.
