It's now confirmed for Jake Allen: Kent Hughes is doing his homework
For a while, trade rumors involving Jake Allen and another team have subsided. With his recent performance against the Blues, where he struggled on several goals, the hopes of seeing him leave are practically dashed.
Many fans even began to suggest that the goaltender wants to make sure to stay in Montreal, which is absurd. He is a proud athlete who wants to perform, regardless of the situation.
A few weeks ago, Kent Hughes mentioned that the team might finish the season with three goalies, but he continues to do his homework. Immediately after the Sean Monahan trade, the GM got back on the phone with one goal: to trade Allen.
"Frank Seravalli (Daily Faceoff) mentioned that Kent Hughes, following the Sean Monahan transaction, started making calls again to see what value the goalie might have." - Via DLC
The price Hughes is asking for is directly related to the amount of salary he will retain. There are several teams in need of a goaltender, and this market should open up a bit more towards the final days before the March 8 deadline.
However, with a contract at $3.85 million for another year, Hughes will undoubtedly have to show some creativity.
