On the airwaves of BPM Sports, Georges Laraque, former Montreal Canadiens and now host, dropped a bomb by claiming that Arber Xhekaj, the sturdy 23-year-old defenseman, is reportedly on the verge of being traded.

Laraque, who has always appreciated Xhekaj's physical play, explained that several teams would be interested in acquiring his services, especially if Martin St. Louis continues to leave him aside.

He firmly believes that general manager Kent Hughes could make that decision soon.

According to Laraque, Xhekaj's future appears in jeopardy in Montreal, where the young defender was left out for a second consecutive game. Honestly, I think George is a little emotional about this. He's a Xhekaj fan and it shows.

See his statement here:

«There are teams that are interested in his services and if they go for him, he won't come out of the lineup like in Montreal. Xhekaj knows it and so does his agent. ... The Canadiens will eventually trade Arber Xhekaj. » - Georges Laraque

Short of getting the moon in return, it's very hard to imagine Xhekaj actually being available for a trade.

The Canadiens bet on him, and he remains a key element in the long term.

So, will Xhekaj be traded? Only time will tell, but the defender is still an important piece of the Habs puzzle.

At 23, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound defenseman has not scored a single point in five games this season.
