Ivan Demidov begged the Canadiens for a remarkable reason
It has been a long time since Canadiens fans awaited an announcement as exciting as Ivan Demidov's selection at 5th overall on Friday.
Certainly, Juraj Slafkovsky is very good and will only get better, but at the moment of his selection, there were many uncertainties among fans.
For Demidov, the consensus is clear. Fans and the organization wanted this player, making him both the popular and logical choice.
Development director Nick Bobrov was eager to explain why he was so fond of Demidov.
"We always ask players if they're ready to handle the pressure of the Montreal market. Ivan, he begged us to give him this chance!" - Nick Bobrov on Demidov
Certainly, pressure is ever-present in Montreal. When a player truly wants to experience and thrive on that pressure, it's definitely a winning factor.
The front office did their homework on young Demidov, and he convinced them.
I can't recall seeing Bobrov, Hughes, and Lapointe with such starry-eyed enthusiasm for another player. What just happened is truly special, and we'll have quite a player in Montreal come 2025-26.
