Roy really had a spot to claim during this camp, and he needed to show the organization that he was ready to take the next step. His game intelligence is suited for playing in the top 6, that much is known.
The problem with Joshua is his level of commitment, which is not always adequate, and this observation has followed him throughout his career. I don't know if this is what motivates Martin St-Louis's decision, but Roy will not be replacing Patrik Laine.
Worse yet, he will not be replacing anyone, as he has been assigned to the Laval Rocket, along with Logan Mailloux, Adam Engstrom, and Jakub Dobes.
It is clear that Martin St-Louis and Kent Hughes used this camp to send messages. To Joshua Roy, the message is that he must continue to work, even if he hoped he had secured his spot.
To Cayden Primeau, the message is also very clear, especially with Jakub Dobes pushing from behind. If the Canadiens kept him for so long, it's because there was a genuine interest in retaining him, and the goaltender at risk is Primeau.
In light of these decisions, we can say that this is bad news for Joshua Roy, but he will have the chance to play in the top 6 and really have a successful season.
If he rolls up his sleeves and comes back strong with the Rocket, he will undoubtedly attract the attention of the Canadiens.
The Rocket will have an excellent team this year, even if there are recalls along the way. I would be very surprised if they do not qualify for the playoffs this year.
