Kent Hughes and the Canadiens have acquired a superstar
It's been a long time since there has been a superstar in Montreal, and the wait may now be over.
In fact, Carey Price was a superstar, and his successor is already within the organization. According to Pierre McGuire, Jacob Fowler is a star and will soon be the number one goalie for the Canadiens.
"First of all, this young man is a superstar. He's not just good; he's really good! I would probably let him play one more college season with Boston College to give him a chance to participate in the Frozen Four, then give him a full year in the American League next year. Honestly, he won't have much left to prove after that."
- Pierre McGuire
We all want the Canadiens to have a great offensive star, and that might be the case with Ivan Demidov, who holds a lot of promise. However, it must be admitted that having a top-quality goaltender greatly helps a team.
On this subject, Jeff Gorton is also very excited about Fowler's progress.
"He's a very focused young man, he possesses all the qualities we look for in a goalie. He's the right size, he's quick, he's got the right mindset, nothing really rattles him, so I think for him, it's just about continuing to play!"
- Jeff Gorton
Being one of the best goalies in the NCAA in his first season at 18 is impressive. Fowler will continue to develop this year with Boston College, after which he will likely join the Rocket to play many games.
Not only will this be good for him, but also for internal competition. Samuel Montembeault still has three years left on his contract, Cayden Primeau wants to establish himself, and Jakub Dobes wants to play in the NHL.
Adding other goalies into the mix creates a lot of competition, which is very good for the organization.
