Since Patrik Laine got injured last Saturday, there has been speculation about whether Kent Hughes will be tempted to seek another forward to replace him.

According to reports, the Canadiens' GM is really not in panic mode and is not desperately trying to find a replacement for the Finn.

This is at least what insider Pierre LeBrun mentions, having directly asked Kent Hughes. The answer is clear, and he is not very active on the phone.

This indicates that the verdict on Patrik Laine's injury has really changed everything. When you lose a star player for an entire season, as was considered, it drastically changes an organization's plans.

When it turns out that this player will only miss two to three months, you look internally to see who can replace him, and you hope for a collective effort to make up for this loss.

That seems to be the approach Kent Hughes wants to take, and he's right to do so. There is a lot of internal competition within the Canadiens, and the young players are pushing through. We've seen that with Oliver Kapanen and Emil Heineman, among others.

The reality is that the Canadiens currently have good depth at all positions, something that hasn't happened in a long time.

So if you were expecting a major trade from Kent Hughes in the next few days or weeks, you can forget about it, unless he receives an offer he can't refuse.
