The general manager, the players, the fans, in short the entire organization and those around it want to be in the mix for the playoffs this year, and with losses like the one suffered against the Kraken, it doesn't bode well.
Indeed, the Canadiens can't accumulate these kinds of performances, and one problem needs to be addressed immediately, which is improving the defense. The Canadiens are doing well on offense and on the power play, but are giving their opponents too many quality chances.
Dave Morissette has his opinion on what could help the team, and that is to bring in a veteran goalie to help Samuel Montembeault. His desire clearly goes against the Canadiens' plan last year, when Jake Allen was traded to make way for Cayden Primeau.
However, I must admit that I quite agree with him. Samuel Montembeault doesn't have much experience in net yet, let alone as a number one.
He's already the veteran goalie of the entire organization at 28, with only 151 career starts. Let's just say he doesn't have the experience of Carey Price at the same age.
The future looks promising with Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler on the way, but they won't be ready just yet. In the meantime, Montembeault needs a more experienced partner to support him, as Cayden Primeau lacks stability and experience.
For Dave Morissette, securing a goalie is a priority for Kent Hughes. Given that the GM was actively pursuing Yaroslav Askarov, it's fair to wonder if a goalie like John Gibson might interest him.
