The Calgary Flames are the big surprise of this start to the NHL season.
While no one expected them to shine, they have a perfect 4-0-0 record after their first four games. And what about Jonathan Huberdeau who is back on track with six points in four games?
This unexpected performance from the Alberta team could have positive repercussions for the Montreal Canadiens.
Let's remember that when Sean Monahan was traded, the CH also acquired a first-round pick, accompanied by many complex conditions and as former Cap Friendly manager Jamie Davis pointed out (reported by Marco Normandin), It was the most complex trade in a very long time in the NHL.
We were at a reception after my sister-in-law's wedding. That's when Sean Monahan was traded to the Montreal Canadiens. Normally, when a trade happens, I have to step away for 5-10 minutes. But this one had so many conditions that I had to leave for two hours and write down the conditions on a piece of paper to understand how each one would impact the draft picks involved and the other related trades. -Jamie Davis
Let's just say that this pick could become particularly interesting if Calgary continues on its current path.
Why? Because if the Flames finish the season in a position where their pick is between 11th and 15th, it would automatically go to Montreal.
This means the Canadiens could end up with two first-round picks in the top 15 of the 2025 draft.
If that happens, it would be a stroke of genius for Kent Hughes, who has already been hailed for pulling off this trade, and let's be honest, it would be a HUGE boost for the Canadiens' rebuild.
Montreal fans would do well to keep a close eye on the Flames' performances this season.
