Both were restricted free agents, and Hughes signed them to similar contracts: 3 years at $3.362 million and 3 years at $2.9 million, respectively.
It's clear that these players are already worth more than that, making them real bargains, especially considering that both seem poised to play in the top 6.
Now, the GM must continue to make good trades and, most importantly, draft well. Speaking of which, there's a forward who would love to be selected in the first round (the Jets' pick) this year and sign his entry-level contract.
Sacha Boisvert recently appeared on RDS' L'Antichambre, expressing his interest in being drafted by Montreal and signing with them.
Boisvert is a young center standing at 6'2" and weighing 178 lbs, currently playing in the USHL. He had a good season, tallying 68 points, including 26 goals, in 61 games. It's worth noting that he also accumulated 86 penalty minutes.
Boisvert is projected to go late in the first round, and the Canadiens still have the Jets' pick. It will be interesting to see if they select Boisvert, another player, or if they trade this pick.
