Kent Hughes has just confirmed a very interesting signing
On June 1st, Kent Hughes and the Canadiens will have to make important decisions regarding four of the organization's prospects, including forward Jared Davidson.
If Hughes doesn't come to terms with Davidson, Petteri Nurmi, Cedrick Guindon, and Miguel Tourigny, their rights will no longer belong to the Canadiens, and they will become free agents.
The one most likely to be signed is Davidson, and this has just been confirmed. The young forward has signed a two-year entry-level contract.
"BROSSARD Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has agreed to terms on a two-year, entry-level contract (2024-25 to 2025-26) with forward Jared Davidson.
Davidson played 38 games with the Laval Rocket in the AHL in 2023-24, recording 16 points (11 G, 5A) in his first year as a professional. The 21-year-old centerman ranked third among Rocket rookies in goals, trailing only Logan Mailloux and Joshua Roy." - Montreal Canadiens Davidson was particularly strong at the junior level, with seasons of 38 and 42 goals. He added 11 in 38 games during his professional hockey debut with the Rocket last year.
This left-handed center, standing 6' and weighing 180 lbs, has the perfect profile to become a solid third-line center in the NHL. He should be able to score around 20 goals per season at maturity.
As for Nurmi, Guindon, and Tourigny, Kent Hughes has until Saturday at 5:00 PM to come to terms with them, but it would be very surprising if that happens.
The Canadiens are therefore expected to lose three prospects, which will happen every year due to the 50-contract limit.
