Kent Hughes has the opportunity to make a big impact with a 30-goal scorer
We constantly hear about Kent Hughes needing to improve his offense, and it's known he wants to add young players like Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook.
However, one player won't be enough, and he might turn to free agents to address another gap.
Tyler Toffoli's name has been widely discussed, but now another option has emerged.
Indeed, the Buffalo Sabres will buy out the final 3 years of Jeff Skinner's contract, despite him being far from a bad player. He's even been a thorn in the Canadiens' side.
His 6 seasons with over 30 goals, including one with 40, showcase his talent. He also achieved a career-high 82 points in 2022-23.
Given he's paid $9 million per year, the Sabres have had enough, but at $4 or $5 million, he would be a real bargain.
"This isn't breaking news. Friedman and Marek were on this a week ago.
Multiple sources have confirmed to me the Sabres will buy out the last 3 years of Skinner's contract barring an unforeseen trade."
- Chad DeDominicis
So, it's not because he's not good, but because his contract is too heavy for the Sabres, who have plenty of talented young forwards.
Skinner will soon be free to sign with any team of his choosing, and Kent Hughes could make a big splash by signing him at a reasonable salary.
